CORONAVIRUS INITIATIVE

In April 2020, the SDN Academy launched a series of free online lectures and mini-courses as a response to the ongoing learning needs of the community, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. These sessions, led by a global group of SDN trainers and speakers, focused around several service design-related topics that included Lean Agile development, the circular economy, cognitive biases and client ecosystems, to name a few. Spanning over three weeks, this initiative welcomed more than 700 participants to our online channel and were a phenomenal success.

We know that many members of the community were unable to actively participate in the courses of their choice which is why we are pleased to present a curated collection of those sessions right here, for your viewing pleasure.

Please note that like many fellow organisations, the SDN is indeed feeling the financial impact of COVID-19 on our operations. That is why we are asking that you consider donating to our organisation to help us sustain our mission. We believe these videos are one example of how we add value to our community and certainly hope that you do too. So please, consider donating.

Lecture: The Strategic Role of Service Design in Organizations
Today, more than ever, the role of design is shaping human needs as we deliver new service models to improve human lives. As design professionals we continue to experiment with new ways to provide solutions for complex problems. During this session, we will share insights on how to identify these challenges inside and outside an organizational setting and, how to close gaps between people, process, policies, platforms. You will be able to understand how service design delivers strategic value to organizations and start to think about how you can empower your organization to be more human-centric.
Host: Carol Massa, Invited Trainer, Service Designer at Harmonic Design
Free lecture: Virtual Design Sprint
Lecture about remote / virtual design sprint we did with a start-up in an intensive online week. As Service Designer and lead of many design sprints, I would like to compare it with a standard physical one, discuss learnings and provide some tips to the audience for remote collaboration and workshops.

Lecture: A practical co-design workshop planning toolkit
The success of a co-design workshop isn’t about turning up and winging the facilitation - it’s (at least) as important to plan and coordinate the workshop experience beforehand. We have created, tested and refined Nile’s co-design planning toolkit that enables us to quickly collaborate on workshop plans that effectively coordinate objectives, activities and materials while being easy to digest for facilitators and stakeholders.

Lecture: The Future of Service Design
We will dive into the key phases of the history of service design. We will then explore 8 topics which had been identified by two rounds of Tricider survey. Based on these outcomes we had 8 workshops during a one-day Summit held on March 5th 2020 in Cologne, Germany. Each workshop team produced an "artefact of the future" and calls for action - some examples of these will be shared in this 60 min lecture!

Lecture: Bad Romance: What gets in the way of business-design relationships?

Navigating designer-client relationships can feel a little "Venus/Mars" at the best of times, with clashing ways of doing things, mismatched expectations and a significant amount of communication lost in translation. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Join this workshop to discover simple, effective ways to bridge the disciplinary divides and forge more enjoyable, effective client relationships.

Design works when we work well together!
