What to expect?
Recent interest in Systemic Design has resulted in the emergence of toolkits and templates that aim at integrating systems thinking with service design methods. However, we believe there is an imperative for a more profound and insightful integration. In the Systemic Design 2.0 Course, we move beyond the tools and templates level, to tap into the power of timeless ideas and practical techniques from the systems paradigm. This transition enables the designers to add depth and dimension to their observations, create their own tools for sense-making, re-iterate and examine design problems in novel ways, and learn better in and about complexity.

What are the takeaways from this training?
This course will help you to:
-
Gain insights into the characteristics of complex problematic situations such as dynamism, nonlinearity, ubiquitous delays and endogenous behavior.
-
Develop a precise visual language to map cause-effect relationships, interdependencies, contextual and temporal factors in complex problematic situations.
-
Move beyond an event- or data-oriented approach to problem solving, by identifying trends and patterns of behavior, to surfacing the underlying structures that generate these events and patterns.
-
Capture and make explicit, refine and improve the mental models and perceptions of complex problems.
-
Improve dialogue and facilitate shared understanding and consensus amongst organizational participants in decision making.

High-level agenda
There are levelling up exercises for every session and during the sessions we work interactively to apply the ideas and the techniques to examples and cases from our experiences.

Who is this course for?
Service designer, design researcher, UX designer, systems designer, design thinker

Course prerequisites
No prerequisite required. The participants should do the levelling up assignments before every session.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Excellent lectures, nice people to learn with. Many exercises with a variety to choose from is nice. Lot's of good readings are also available.

Fascinating content, deeper level of thinking, very in depth learning!

Potential for a fundamental change in understanding how the world (systems) work.

Great introduction of how and when to effectively model the dynamics of different situations.

A comprehensive and coherent presentation of systems thinking.

A new way to unpack problems and develop solution systems, thinking about how to think about relations.
