Course content

During the Service Design Leadership Lab, our experienced trainer will give you the theory and hands-on, practical experience to enrich your leadership skills, across four insight-filled modules:

KEY TOPICS

  • Introduction to Leadership: perspectives, context, key competencies, classical leadership theories and widely used models related to Service Design

  • More successful in leadership knowing yourself: my personal leadership Style, understanding and values

  • Leadership landscape: situational, servant, humble, agile, adaptive and transformational leadership styles and their application and impact

  • Individual Reflection & peer to peer counselling

Leading Myself

Starting with myself to become a leader people love to follow

Leadership begins within. In this module, you’ll explore the foundations of authentic leadership, starting with a deep understanding of yourself. Learn how to identify your personal leadership style, align with your values, and apply diverse approaches like situational, servant, and transformational leadership in service design. Through individual reflection and peer counselling, this session equips you to lead with confidence, inspiring trust and motivation in others.

Leading My Team

Empowering the teams I lead and work with

Great leaders empower great teams. In this module, you’ll learn how to build trust, foster motivation, and create psychological safety within your teams, whether working in traditional or agile organisations. With insights from neuroscience and leadership theories like Growth Mindset and Leadership Agility, you’ll apply these concepts directly to service design projects. Reflect on workplace challenges through individual and peer-to-peer counselling, leaving equipped to lead your team with confidence and impact.

  • Introduction to leading teams within traditional or agile organisations

  • Learning how to empower and build trust within teams using current findings from neuroscience

Leading Service Design

Being a catalyst for embedding Service Design

and shaping an innovation mindset

Service design leaders are catalysts for innovation. In this module, you’ll explore the challenges of embedding service design within organisations, from fostering a culture of creativity and innovation to navigating internal politics and stakeholder management. Learn how to prototype organisational change, communicate the value of service design, and elevate your organisation’s UX and service design maturity. Through case clinics and reflection, you’ll apply these insights to real-world challenges, equipping you to lead with vision and impact.

Integrate & Anchor

Transfer the learnings and develop an actionable plan for your leadership journey

This final module focuses on bringing it all together. Reflect on your experiences, exchange insights with peers, and discuss how to apply what you’ve learned in your leadership role. Through interactive sessions, you’ll develop a personalised action plan to anchor your leadership style and skills, ensuring lasting impact in your career and workplace.

KEY TOPICS

  • Final module with the aim to integrate learnings

  • Room for peer-to-peer exchange, interactive sessions and discussion, reflection on testing the learned at work

  • Development of an action plan to ensure that the personal leadership skills and style can be anchored

Prof Dr Tina Weisser holds a professorship in Service Design at MUC.DAI - Munich Center for Digital Sciences and AI at University of Applied Science Munich and works as a management consultant for more than 20 years. Her research and professional activities focus on service design implementation, change management and leadership.
