Strategic Design in Organisations with Carol Massá

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

Carol Massá - SDN Acc. Service Design Professional

According to the book The Living Company authored by Royal Dutch/Shell executive Arie de Geus (1997), a "living company" is characterised as one with long-term vision and which has the ability to learn and adapt as its environment dictates. Such an organisational approach, he states, is ultimately what ensures its ability to survive.

Using this thinking as foundational support, SDN invited trainer Carol Massá will return to the SDN Academy with her two-part course titled Strategic Design in Organisations (May 4-5, 2021). This "back by popular demand" program will work with participants to explore what it means to be a “living company” and, in turn, build a roadmap which will help their respective organisations to deliver meaningful, strategic value that is based on a human-centric approach.

Organisations as a Community

Have you ever thought of an organisation as a living entity? Made up of people who are intrinsically connected through their processes and policies, organisations are dynamic organisms that change based on a multitude of often, competing variables. Understanding this provides new insights into how to approach challenges from an inside and outside-in perspective, ultimately leading to better collaboration across the organisation.

Join Carol in this compelling workshop and start deep by deconstructing the very essence of a service. From there you will identify and analyse the three entities that make up a service—the provider, the customer and the medium driving the relationship—to pinpoint the value being conducted through the service. Corporate consultancy, as well as the public and non-profit sectors, will all be covered.

Here's what one student had to say after taking Carol's course:

Participating in this course was a unique experience. I joined this course to get an understanding on how I can present to my Senior management what Service design approach is and articulate what it can bring to our organisation. Carol was able to exactly provide this framework in this course and I am already using it to communicate with my Senior management team and they want me to now go ahead and present them with a plan of action.”
